Favorite tanka from 2016 TSA Members’ Anthology
selection & reflections by Kathabela Wilson
clear water
in a swimming pool
never turns
as beautiful as the ocean
in my hometown

Comments from Kathabela Wilson

The author is our only member in China. His subtle unique perspective expands throughout the poem. Comparing a clear controlled swimming pool to the wild, expansive, mysterious, richness of an ocean environment, he reminds us that the natural order contains a complex, debris laden, emotionally potent beauty. Human beings like to clean things up. But our "hometown" is like the ocean.
